The Single Biggest Mistake You Can Make On Your Web Site

We all do it. It is such a natural thing to do. We know how hard we worked and how excited we are with what we offer and we want to share it with everyone who comes to our web site.

But wait, what’s wrong with that picture.

People only want to know what’s in it for them

Isn’t that a bummer. All the why’s and wherefore’s of how we have created our business is not important to them. All they want to know is how it will solve their problem or make them feel better or do better or be more successful. And that’s exactly what we have to tell them on every page of our web site.

People want to know they will feel better after using your product or service

One of the most interesting aspects of marketing is to know that you are most successful when people feel good about the decision they make. They must be able to feel and imagine how different their life will be after they make the purchase. They must have a positive kinesthetic response to the idea of using your products or services.

Always make promises you can keep

What can you assure people will happen to improve their business or their life if they purchase from you? Will they make more money? If so, how much? Will they feel better? If so, how soon? Will they know more? If so, how much? You get the picture. Give them measurable results that they can expect from what you have to offer.

Emphasize your benefits

Keep the phrase “so that” handy as you write your benefit copy. Start with the list of the benefits you offer people. Then add “so that” to help further clarify the benefit. For instance:

“I help you write compelling copy so that you can convert more visitors on your web site.”

“I help you focus your services so that your target market can easily understand your offerings and want to purchase them.”

These might then turn into bullet points like

Convert more visitors on your web site
Earn greater profit by laser focusing your services

You see, the visitor doesn’t care how I might go about doing that for them, as in helping them write compelling copy or focusing their services, they want the bottom line, the end result. They want to know what’s in it for them.

When you finally do talk about yourself keep it relevant

After you have written about the benefits of your services and listed some of the features, which are the form your offering takes, then you can add your credentials for being the right person to deliver the results. Don’t go back to your early life, don’t go through your process of arriving at this business; speak instead of your unique skill or talent or training that is relevant for producing the results you are offering. Even when you write for your media page, keep your bio relevant to the subject you are an expert on.

It’s hard when we’ve put so much into it

I know this goes against every grain. We’ve worked so hard and studied so much and put our hearts into our offering. But we have to be satisfied that we know what it has meant to us. We have to focus on the other person, the visitor to our web site. It’s not about us, it’s about them. That’s how to have a successful web site.

What is an Autoresponder?

An autoresponder is a marketing tool that
collects subscribers for you and gives you the ability to
email those people as a group or individually.

With an autoresponder you can type an email message saying anything
you want, load it into a field that looks just like the text
area you type any normal email into, click Send, and your
message will be delivered to all your subscribers instantly.
The emails address each one on a first name basis. This could be
just 10 people or it could be thousands, even millions.

When you use an autoresponder to send a message promoting a
product you are selling to a targeted group of subscribers,
you have a very good chance of making sales if what you are
offering is something that interests your subscriber database.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

While the term affiliate marketing is becoming increasingly popular in Internet sales, there are quite a few people who do not understand exactly what it means. In this post I will attempt to clearly define it. In future posts I will go into the advantages and disadvantages.

Affiliate marketing is an Internet-based marketing system in which a business compensates one or more affiliates, or associates, for each visitor or sale that the affiliate is responsible for.

Instead of promoting its product or products itself, the business relies on the affiliates to drive traffic and sales. The affiliate is responsible for advertising. The affiliate uses one website, their own, to drive traffic to another website, the business’s.

Amazon.com was one of the pioneers in affiliate marketing. In 1996 they began an associate program. The associates (affiliates) placed banners on their website for Amazon.com and were compensated when people clicked on the banner and purchased a book from Amazon.

This is a brief introduction. I will discuss affiliate marketing in detail in further posts.

The following article is a reprint of a recent forum post I made. This is a reply to someone who was feeling down after investing a couple of months in Internet marketing:

Nothing worthwhile in life is easy. At one point in my life I was working 60-70 hours a week in retail. This is certainly easier than that. I’ve even had my own brick and mortar store. Now that was a nightmare. You invest thousands, pay big rent, and when you open you wind up looking at yourself alone in your store for a while.

What you have is your business. You must think of it as yours, your baby. Think of yourself as a business man or woman. Tell your family and friends you have a business. Get business cards made. Why? Because a lot of this is about attitude and image. There are a whole lot of businesses not making a profit. Look at GM for example. The CEO there is still CEO of GM. Nevermind the fact that they lost $39 billion the last quarter.

I don’t think Stone Evans misleads anyone. He says he is going to show us what he did to make what he did. And that is basically what he does in his 30 day success guide. I don’t remember reading anything he said that it would be fast. The 30 day guide is an invaluable tool packed with very useful info. It cuts a huge amount of time off the learning curve.Be patient my friend! Implement as much as you can of Stone’s tips into your business. Read this forum daily. Learn, learn, and then learn some more.

You and I are babes in this niche of marketing. I’m 57 years old and happy that at my age I have not stopped learning and growing.Try day after day to have a positive attitude about PIPS and your life. We only pass by once. Might as well do it with a good attitude:) Make some sacrifices in life.

How many people here are complaining about not having enough money for PIPS (their own business), yet they are keeping Starbucks in business. Think of it this way. If you buy one latte a day from SB’s you are paying more per month than Success University would cost. Which do you think is a better investment? Empowerism costs about 75 cents per day. Most people here can find that somewhere. It’s less than the price of a newspaper.Don’t give up. This is a very good opportunity.

Hits? Visitors? – What IS The Difference?

We have all seen the claims on the advertising web sites that they get over 100,000 hits per month, blah, blah blah. Well, what does that really mean? What about the counter at the bottom of a page? What does this information mean and is it accurate?What is a hit, and what is a visitor?

What is the difference between a hit and a visitor?

These are important questions that people interested in making money online need to answer.

First, a hit is not a visitor to your web site. It is a hit on the web server. A hit on the web server can be a graphic, java applet, the html file, anything you have on your site. Let’s say a web site has one hundred small graphics, etc. on one page. Every time someone clicks on that page, the site registers the graphics, etc. on the page plus the clicker as hits. Therefore, a single click by someone onto that web page would be recorded as 101 hits!

Home business owners should not be too concerned with hits to their web sites. This is something that Stone Evans talks about at the beginning of his 30 Day Success Guide. We must know the number of visitors to our site. We must be able to count every unique visitor who comes to our web site. And maybe even more importantly, we must know how they got there. We must be able to distinguish between one person visiting 20 times and 20 people visiting one time each. So if we can’t count hits because they aren’t really measuring what we want to know, what about counters? Are they useful for someone developing their Internet business?

The problem with counters is that they measure page views, not unique visitors. Basically, the counter doesn’t take into consideration the IP address of who is clicking on your web site and what paths they are taking to get there. One person can click on your page many times and be counted as a visitor each time. Everytime someone views your page, whether it’s the first time or the twentieth, that visitor is counted. That isn’t really very helpful for us as Internet marketers. And it doesn’t tell us anything about how they got to us.

Some hosts provide that information. If your host does not, there are services available that can provide you with that information for a small fee.

One web site I have is hosted by Priceless Possibilities: EdDiPaolo.com. In my control panel there I can view the IP address and path of each visitor. This is a valuable tool I use to monitor my advertising campaigns.

Yes, it is possible to have a home business and make money online. But I am going to be honest with you from my first post here, it takes work. If you’re working construction now or working 50 to 60 hours per week in retail, having a home based business will seem easier. To be successful in any online business venture, you must be willing to invest your time and money. Anyone who tells you otherwise is outright lying to you! Trust me, I know from personal experience. Financial success online doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t matter what programs you choose. I will post much more information here about how to have a successful home business. I will detail how you can launch several streams of income in 24 hours. All under one automated system.

In future posts I will outline the steps that I discovered necessary to succeed in a home business. And what you must be willing to do.
